You’ve been hearing about it for what seems like decades. Tobacco is bad for your health, yet, you, like countless others, got addicted somewhere along the way. I am one of those individuals fighting the addiction to cigarettes and wanting desperately to quit. However, you’ve stopped here and there and heard about those having success by switching to e-liquids. Here’s how you too can make the transition.
What Is Vaping?
Understand that vaping is not smoking. That is a good thing. E-liquids contain a combination of elements but tobacco is never one of them. Plus, there’s no smoke involved in the process. E-liquid is heated by a device and then turned to vapor via a coil. While cigarettes involve lighting the end of a paper on fire and taking puffs of tobacco smoke, vaporizing features no fire and no ‘smoke.’
There’s Still Nicotine
At this point, some cigarette smokers get skeptical. “What do you mean there’s no smoke?” Well, cigarettes and e-liquid devices do have one thing in common – nicotine. It’s an addictive chemical yet e-liquids don’t contain harmful tar and other agents. Moreover, you can choose the level of nicotine present. Eventually, you can entirely make the switch. A regular, strong, and unfiltered cigarette contains about 36 milligrams of nicotine. An ultra light has 6 milligrams. You want to feel that kick to the throat. Otherwise, you may equate the ordeal with going from a regular brand of cigarettes to lights, which works for some but not for all. How Much Do You Smoke?
Start vaping based on your regular cigarette routine. For example, if you smoked more than a pack a day of regular cigarettes (not lights or ultra lights) then you may want to start with an e-liquid with at least 24 milligrams of nicotine. However, most don’t just go from smoking packs a day to vaping. Therefore, if you’ve been cutting down on cigarettes then you should find an e-liquid with a moderate dose of nicotine.
Do What Works
There have been studies to argue it’s better to quit cold turkey, and others suggest weaning off cigarettes. Do what works for you. Some people will stop cigarettes and go to vaping. Some will juggle both for some time. Others may vape most of the week or month but need to smoke a cigarette every now and again. While remaining understanding that cigarettes are much more hazardous to your health, adopt a transitioning approach that works best for you.
Know the Ingredients
